The Round Up - Emley crowned Champions, Parkgate and Wakefield maintain promotion push


 

EmleyAFC were crowned champions of the NCEL Premeir Division, earning promotion in the process after a 5-0 demolition of Goole AFC today. A crowd of 527 watched on as a Ruben Jerome brace had the Pewitts in a comfortable lead at half time. 3 goals in the final 18 minutes ensured the party started amongst the Away fans as Emley find themselves on 81 points - 11 clear of rivals Campion.


 

Hallam’s hopes of a top 10 finish in the Premier Division were further solidified after an impressive 2-0 away display against Golcar Utd. 2  second-half goals within a 15 minute spell for Ollie Fearon proved to be the difference between the two sides - leaving the strong away following heading home to Sheffield in good spirits this bank holiday weekend.

 

Handsworth got back to winning ways, after a midweek defeat in the league cup, at home against Pickering town. Bagley netted for the Ambers on the stroke of half time before doubling his tally two minutes after the restart. Ambers scored a third before the hour mark and remain in 13th place.


 

Maltby Main failed to take advantage of Pickering and Goole losses today as they were defeated 1-0 at home by Eccleshill United. Today’s defeat means the Miners are 4 points adrift of safety with just two league games remaining. Main were unable to force the equaliser after the opener was scored just after the restart in front of a crowd of 167 at Muglet Lane.

Parkgate’s hopes of a Division One title are still alive as they came out 2-0 winners against Dronfield Town. Parkgate find themselves 6 points off top of the table Shirebrook but have 5 (Yes, 5) games in hand. With Parkgate still to play 9 games of their season they have an incredibly congested fixture list ahead which involves 10 Games in 27 days.

 

A good crowd of 157 enjoyed an excellent game in the Barnsley sunshine at Worsbrough Bridge today. The Briggers defeated ten man Horbury 3-1 in a game that very much entertained. A clinical Briggers side found themselves 2-0

Up inside the half hour mark. Horbury’s Bojang netted for the away side just 6 minutes later making for a good finish to the first half. Horbury were reduced to ten man after cool heads failed

to prevail and their player kicked out against Worsbrough after a mistimed challenge. Worsbrough sealed the points after a clever ball across goal was tucked home by Jake Bradford.


 

A thrilling 5 goal encounter was enjoyed by a superb crowd of 352 at Wombwell Town today as Wakefield AFC maintained second place position. Town found themselves 2 goals down just before half time but showed a spirited second half performance to get the game level on the 71st minute through former Emley and Handsworth man Rikki Paylor. Wakefield AFC managed to take the three points with a last gasp winner leading to jubilation amongst the away bench thrilled as Wakefield kept their hopes of automatic promotion alive.

 

9 men Swallownest held out in the dying moments to secure themselves a much needed 2-1 win against fellow strugglers Yorkshire Amateur. Swallownest doubled their lead on the hour but the lead was halved just three minutes later by Freddie Swales. A nail biting final few minutes were seen out well by Swall who remain 22nd in the league.
